The last 50-55 seconds were really creatively tweaked. The Disney parts effortlessly merged with the story. Great mash-up!

The problem with making non-hierarchical communities online is that the internet is itself hierarchical. There's certain countries, websites, and companies that wield more power than others; it's never been a horizontal space.

I'm very anti-DSLR, and I have a Canon 5D Mark II in my basement that I've used quite a bit for tests. I hate the form factor (albeit can be compensate with [very expensive] pistol-grip setups, etc.), but most of all I hate shooting on cards. I don't trust them. I'd rather have a timecode break on my tapes than have a card get fried and lose, say, 20 gigs of footage.

But it works for AOV, specifically in that the size of a 5D and a small lens means you can mount it pretty much anywhere.

Still doesn't look nearly as good as 35mm (obviously) and definitely not as good as any Red platform.

Call me old-fashioned, I guess.

Yet again disqualified in the narrative category because I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to tell an awesome story in under 90 minutes. Specifically, 93 minutes, eerily the TRT of BOTH my features; thought my second was going to be like three hours.

For whatever reason I can never throw my weight behind a Woody Allen film. Then again, given I don't like Annie Hall or Manhattan, I'm sort of doomed. I also hate movies about writers. Works of art about artists are always boring.

Thinking about promoting The Tree of Life into my will-then-be Top 12. I've seen it about seven times and... wow. Last time a film like this came out was 2001: A Space Odyssey in '68, and that's my favorite film.

Also didn't like Meek's Cutoff as much as everyone else, even though I thought Wendy & Lucy was pretty good. I think the director should do more period work, though, since her modern stuff is fairly plodding.

Tabloid was crazy. I usually have a hard time for Morris documentaries with regards to what is the truth, etc., but since this one was so wacky it didn't really matter. Also makes me weary of Mitt Romney being Mormon and the probable GOP frontrunner. And I knew you'd like this because of the motion graphics!

While I still haven't seen The Ides of March (big Clooney-as-director fan except, uh, Leatherheads), I think my top three are The Tree of Life, Contagion, and Moneyball. Yeah, a bit on the Hollywood side, but I am the Hollywood correspondent, so why not?
