The Holy Mountain Lizard

A still from Alejandro Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain (1973)

Bejeweled reptilian apparel and attention to detail should have justified The Holy Mountain a 1973 Oscar win for best costume design.  Instead, Anthony Powell grabbed the 1973 Best Costume Design win for his work in Travels with My Aunt.

There is no Oscar guarantee for elaborate lizard costumes…  What a shame — they look great when dressed as Inca mystics.

Side Note: Luis Buñuel’s The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie rightfully won the 1973 Academy Award for  Best Foreign Language Film.
