Selected works from Takeshi Murata’s “Synthesizers” series
“Synthesizers” by Takeshi Murata
Salon 94 Bowery, 2012
It’s always a treat to see new work from Takeshi Murata. His “Synthesizers” show at the Salon 94 Bowery in NYC just ended, yet the internet archives it for posterity.
Murata’s 2012 “Synthesizers” series, along with his 2011 “Get Your As To Mars” series, attest to Murata’s talent for gracefully transiting the digital space to the gallery space, with “Synthesizers” essentially refining the CGI still life aesthetic he explored with his “Get Your Ass To Mars” series. It’s a unique brew of digital surrealism: a toy-box medley of items composed with alacrity and digital wit, with dreamlike CGI aesthetics that hark back to the formative CGI animation years of the late ’80s and early ’90s, viz., scenes from a Mind’s Eye VHS tape.
