Wellness: A Big Doc on Small Time Business

Trailer for Wellness | A Film by Jake Mahaffy

“You wanna be rich, or ya wanna live in this dump?”

Wellness, which won the Jury Prize at the 2008 SXSW film festival, is an independent, feature-length documentary about a man trying to succeed in a business that doesn’t exist.

I haven’t seen the entire film, but I love the trailer for this film. The “Supremo Burrito” moment at the gas station is hilarious.  Someday I hope to see this film in its entirety.

Director’s Bio:
Born and raised in Ohio, Mahaffy’s experimental shorts and feature-length WAR have screened in festivals and competitions around the world. He studied filmmaking at RISD and the Russian State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow, co-founded the ‘Handcranked Film Projects’ in Boston and is now developing a new filmmaking curriculum at Wheaton College, Massachusetts as an Associate Professor. For Free in Deed, a feature film in development about a man who tries to perform a miracle and fails, Mahaffy has received a Rockefeller Media Arts Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Creative Capital grant, and the Sundance Institute’s inaugural Lynn Auerbach Screenwriting Fellowship, after developing the project at the 2006 Sundance Filmmaker’s Labs.
